Cowboy's Lament

" Well, ol Paint...ol' pal"...the ol' cowboy said, as he climbed down from his ol' horse, "I'm gonna miss ya' ol' buddy, but I tol' ya all along. There'd come a day I'd be goin' away to Nashville....gotta make a little money....maybe a whole lot of money, singin' cowboy songs. Like, "yippy aye yippy, and yippy kye ohh!" It's that kinda thing they wanna hear ya' know."

"But, I just want ya' to know, I'm gonna miss ya', an' that ol' prairie...ropin' them doggies, cookin' them beans on the ol' campfire...with the north wind wailin', and the howlin' of the mean coyotes....but Lord, I'm tired of bustin' my britches tryin' to splice up that rusty barbed wire."

"I'll be back some day, I reckon, with a saddle trimmed out in silver...a new pair of cowboy boots, I'll even get new shoes for you. And I'll be ridin' with a lady, she'll be ridin' on a pretty little filly, and she'll be glad to see ya'...can't ya' just imagine that, Paint? When the nights get cold? ohhh...ladee...hoooo!"

"Little ol' lady who'll keep ya' warm when the night winds howl....little ohhh...ladee...hooo...get along now. I'll be back some day ol' Paint, get along now." DS

I understand, Blogitse...the cowboy era here is so over-mythologized...there are still working ranches with working cowboys in parts of the country, but for the most part, the media conveys images of pretend cowboys in the form of music entertainers...it is a kind of music I can't relate to.

how about those country music singers with cowboy hats, boots etc. What are they trying to tell us?
Do they have connection (I mean real connection) to country side, horses etc.?
Or is it just a style? Style to dress up...
Do they dress like that every day?
or
just like a role-play?

it's funny how we write differently the same thing!
Scriber writes 'HEE HAW' in Finnish we would write that "JIIHAA". J=you say that differently, sorry, our's is 'dryer', II=evening, HAA=your haw, but we write it like we say it...
HAA like HAH HAH HAA :-)

In Nashville, about an hour from where I live, you see lots of wannabe cowboys...and they wear custom clothing and its all image-oriented. In the rural south, cowboy hats and boots are common, but these are mostly ranchers and farmers and their attire serves their work.

We had a guy in Korea (or actually more than one).
They still dressed in Cowboy hats, embroidered shirts and boots :)
Lifestyle of Southern boys.

Blogitse...your "Jiihaa!" and Scriber's "hee-haw" are interesting to think about...the expressions "gee" and "haw" go back a century or two here...where they came from, I don't know...but in their early forms they were utterances or commands given to a horse or a plow mule, telling the animal to go left or right.. Later, yee haw and hee haw became exclamations of exuberance or laughter...and in cyber world it turned into LOL!
