Abandoned Chair

Walking down an alley, you see all sorts of things thrown away. And I saw this chair thrown up against the side of a trash container. It was on its back amidst a lot of other crap. I picked it up and took it home. It was such a simple little chair, perhaps, home-made. One front corner of the seat was burnt away. It had survived a fire. That was 10 years ago. I still have this chair. Here are a few phone cam pix of it. It is one of the mysteries I live with. Who made this chair? Who sat in it? How long ago? Who saved it from the fire? And who threw it away?

You can see how the lower corner of the seat was burned away. And you can see how someone spent time tacking nails into the chair to hold the spindles to the top.

Somehow, something got lost along the way, here is my picture of the mystery in my bedroom today.

That looks like a real old one.
I love chairs like that.
I had two like these, but I'm not sure if they moved with me to Hungary and are in storage now.
Mh.
:(
This one looks like out of the early settlers days :)

Looks really really old. An antique! What are you going to do with it?

Yeh, its pretty old! It is all bleached out gray with age...its functional as a chair, but mostly I pile clothes on it cuz I am not very good about hanging them up! ; )

Nicole, how do you comment such that you can then read replies? I don't know how to do that!

Here I do it with the google thing.

But sometimes it works with RSS feeds too.
I usually prefer RSS comment feeds and not via email, but it works, that's what counts :)

I owned the chair - in my past life! :-)
I was a carpenter, young though, when I made that chair...
Used to sit on it when watching the sunset...

To me the most interesting part is not the chair...it is you wondering about the chair and attempting to make connections in your imagination...

Yeh, Anonymous, imagining its history is a big part of my love of this chair. Its not that I need to figure out where it came from literally...but that it looks likes something that precedes my own time, and will perhaps still be in the world somewhere after I am gone. That's what the chair says to me.

EVERYTHING has a story.... and we can make it up as we go along if we do not know the real one ;)
